First United Methodist Church - Sabetha
I Timothy 4:6-16 (nrsv)
If you put these instructions before the brothers and sisters, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound teaching that you have followed. Have nothing to do with profane myths and old wives’ tales. Train yourself in godliness, for, while physical training is of some value, godliness is valuable in every way, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance. For to this end we toil and struggle, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.
These are the things you must insist on and teach. Let no one despise your youth, but SET THE BELIEVERS AN EXAMPLE in speach and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. Until I arrive, give attention to the public reading of scripture, to exhorting, to teaching. Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you through prophecy with the laying on of hands by the council of elders. Put these things into PRACTICE, DEVOTE yourself to them, so that all may see your PROGRESS. Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; continue in these things, for in doing this you will save both yourself and your hearers.
We believe that youth ministry is more than an investment in the future of religious institution. Indeed! The church as institution is not necessary to the mission of the church. Jesus said to go forth and to make disciples of every nation baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Nowhere does it say to go and build buildings and offer programming.
We are not concerned with property, charters, or denomenational affiliation when we state as a church that we want to be "A Servant Church for Our Community". We feel that the Holy Spirit is working through our church to build God's Kingdom here. We know that because of the living blood of Christ that evil fears the work that God is doing.
Therefore, to engage in Youth Ministry is to engage in a sacred trust with our students. God is calling the church to catalyzing agents of GRACE in the world. It is the responsibility of every person of faith to share God's love in the world. Teaching in Sunday School and Worship on Wednesday (WOW) small groups is a way some of our adults and older youth are sharing God's love. However, our hope is that Christ is transforming each of us from the youngest to the oldest into the image of God. ALL of our students are given opportunities and are equipped to engage in service in the community.
So! Check out our Youth Programming. This is how we have chosen to be a faithful church. We hope you will join us! See you soon!
